COLCHICINE

C22H25NO6

Molecular Formula C22H25NO6
Description

tubulin polymerisation inhibitor: potent antimitotic; anti-inflammatory; antifibrogenic.

Alkaloid‚ C22H25NO6 ‚ from the plant Colchicum speciosum‚ Liliaceae.

Biological Activity

antimitotic: binds to one tubulin end and prevents its polymerisation; causes disappearence of the mitotic spindle and blocks the cell in mitosis.
anti-inflammatory: inhibits IL-1 production by peripheral blood monocytes‚ the release of growth factors by Kupffer cells and macrophages‚ the chemotactic migration of inflammatory cells into the liver [1].
antifibrogenic: inhibits microtubule assembly and thus prevent the transport and secretion of collagene; induces collagenase activity [1].
acts on liver functions: modifies membrane fluidity‚ increases membrane enzymes acivities and glycogen levels [1].
